Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant drug that strongly activates certain systems in the brain. More acute responses produce anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, psychotic behavior, and eventually, depression and exhaustion. The effects of methamphetamine generally last 2-4 hours and the drug has a half-life of 9-24 hours in the body.

Instead of doing a blood test to detect drugs in Charlie Sheen's blood they need to do a hair drug test. A 1.5 inch sample will give a 90 day history of drug use. Then, the shortest detection time is with a saliva drug test. Drugs can be detected in saliva for about 0-72 hours. For instance, amphetamine can be detected as early as 5-10 minutes after ingestion or up to 72 hours. The window of detection for marijuana in oral fluids can be up to 14 hours after drug use. Cocaine and benzoylecgonine (part of cocaine) can be detected in oral fluid for up to 24 hours. So it all depends on your drug testing requirements which method is right for you.
